We raced out of Bandaras Bay on Monday with good steady winds that moved us 173 miles in our first 24 hours. Even though we were bashing through swell and all a little queasy it felt amazing to be ticking away the miles so quickly. Since then we’ve passed the 500 mile mark, the boat has become a lot more comfortable.

On Sunday night while we were sitting at the Port Captain’s dock our friends Pat and Ali and their two kids came to bid us farewell. Ali asked that we blog a lot, about everything, even the boring things. I’m sure no one has a more comprehensive blog, about their day to day life and adventures. She knows what’s she’s talking about! So, Ali, this post is for you.

In no particular order this is what we’re up to:
eating lots of fruit, plain and in smoothies
making plenty of power from the sun (enough for the Vitamix!)
reading lots- I’ve read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to the kids, and a new Elsa Beskow book The Land of Long Ago that was a gift when Olive turned 4 1/2.
playing new games- the kids can play Hiss together without any help.
Legos. Lots of Lego time here.
Watching sunrises and sunsets. I’ve been in the cockpit most mornings and Olive always wants to come up and snuggle and tell me how beautiful the world is.
Watch keeping-looking out for ships, adjusting the sails, log keeping
Laundry in a bucket- some of the wash water was from cooking the hard boiled eggs first and the rinse water was used to wash the Monitor down well.
Lots of cooking and dishes, which is a big change from most of our time in La Cruz, especially the last few weeks.
Ruby drawing and writing and working on math books
Sling shooting any rotten food overboard- even Olive will definitely not hit anyone here
Calling random ships just to say, “good morning, have a good trip.”
Listening to music
The kids are watching a movie on most days
I’ve cracked open The Lonely Planet guide to French Polynesia, French for Cruisers, Landfalls in Paradise, Blue Latitudes Boldly Going Where Captain Cook Has Gone Before, and Charlie’s Charts to the South Pacific. I haven’t started a novel yet, but I’m sure that’ll come soon.
Fishing- no luck yet
Scaring birds away, although, some of them are doing a better job at scaring me.
Staring at the most amazing blue color every day.
Star watching through the night.
Listening to Olive when she asks me if we’re getting to our destination today, and her making me promise to tell her when it is the day.

I can easily see wanting to go for a big long walk, and the longing for fresh produce that I’m going to have in a couple weeks, but I can’t imagine that we’ll ever run out of things to do.
